I’m Blogging About Cupcakes on my Saturday Night

And I’m perfectly ok with that.

This entire past week has been a debacle of failed plans. It only seems fitting that I finish the week with yet another lonely night in my room, cramming italian style meatballs into my mouth one by one. Of course I’m making sure to drink an excessive amount of water to prevent the imminent bloating that would otherwise surface tomorrow.

Not the Bloating! Please, Anything but Bloating!!

For tomorrow starts a new week, and I have very special plans to go to my very first Gay Pride Parade! Not only is this essentially my first Pride event I’ll have ever attended, but I could not be in a better city to experience it. Luckily my boss was very understanding and gave me this Sunday off. I even went and bought a new shirt (well it’s actually a tank top..ooh so fancy), and new shoes after work earlier today. And believe me, I refuse to give meatball bloatage the chance to ruin the effectiveness of my outfit.

*If you are thinking to yourself, Hmm, effectiveness is a strange word to associate with an outfit, then you are correct. But then again you have probably never seen me work a crowd in my “lobster shorts” as my friends like to refer to them (due to their having lobs….eh nevermind) Y’all will most likely seem them in pictures eventually.

Enough about pride though. I will be doing another post  documenting it entirely, sometime in the near.. or hopefully near future.

What I want to talk about now is Molly’s Cupcakes. (Click for the site! ooh hyperlink…also so fancy)

The coolest thing about this spot is that it’s very close to my new place!

Remember my friend Annette from my previous post? Well this is where we went after our trip to the zoo. She’s been a fan for some time and insisted I try it. And boy, am I happy I did.  It’s a quaint, little bakery with cute decorations lining the walls and awesome furniture including swing seats. Yes swing seats. How cool is that? For those who are balance challenged, or just plain uncoordinated, do not fret. There are regular seats for you too. So, don’t mind me while I shove you out of the way to grab a swing.

Image
Disclaimer: Technically the seat IS bolted to the floor. However, this doesn’t ruin the fun for me as I am basically a giant child.

The menu was very colorful and inviting, and the cupcake choices were endless. Take note of the  water container standing alone so that you may pour yourself as much water as you need. This is perfect for me since I am one of those weirdos who much prefers water over milk to drink with my sweets.

After some careful decision making, Annette and I agreed on the Wildberry cupcake. Before I could protest, Annette even insisted to treat me to the cupcake. Years of living as a human vulture and picking food from others plates, I learned that nothing tastes better than when it’s free. And this piece of wisdom, from yours truly, proved true in this instant. In fact, the cupcake was deliriously delicious. It was light and yet so sweet. It was fruity while still satisfying our dessert craving. It wasn’t large, and yet it filled both of us quite nicely. It was even filled with an unbelievable raspberry filling. I love raspberry.

I highly recommend trying this place out if you are ever in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago.

It is on Clark street.

And here is the beautiful Annette, posing with my new found love

Tishana vs EEL

One of the perks of my new job in Chicago is that I have fantastic coworkers. And, as a huge sushi advocate, it is my self-imposed duty to spread the love of sushi to all of those around me. Add 1 +1, and I decided to introduce my beautiful coworker, Tishana, to the most delicious ingredient of sushi — eel!

The following is the recording of an actual event.

Thanks to my forceful personality, Tishana is now an eel advocate, even having gone back for more since this time. The restaurant in these photos is Butterfly on West Madison Street. I have been there many times, and the food is delicious. When not ordering sushi, I typically get the curry fried rice. It’s less than $10 and they give you a huge portion. The chicken satay appetizer is also terrific.

Here are two more photos of our trip to another great place to eat at: Marianos. I will have a post dedicated to Marianos up…eventually.

Things you Find when the Weather is Nice

Although I still have more to write concerning some activities that happened last week, I just want to post some pictures of some cool things I saw in the city. It was in the high 50’s today. Amazing how nice 50 degrees feels when you have gotten used to 30’s and below.

The theme for today is Red:

I hope I find the salsa truck again one day. I had just eaten, so I didn’t buy any. The next time I find it, I will be sure to try it.

I also love how the trolley’s name is Timmy.

Talk to y’all soon!

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (Boring title, I know)

I am so sorry readers. I have failed. I had one goal during this holiday, and it proved much too difficult. This was to watch the Chicago River get dyed green (this is the major river that runs through the city, dividing it into North, West, and South sections — Lake Michigan is in the East). The river is dyed on the Saturday of St. Patrick’s Day weekend. My friend and I woke up early Saturday to head  down to the River at 9:30 to join the masses and watch the event take place. Apparently it was 80 degrees the previous March, and the Chicagoans and visitors were able to watch this process from the comfort their shorts and t-shirts. That didn’t happen this year. It was cold. Cold and drizzly. The kind of drizzle that sort of turned into snow, but not quite, so it just left you wet without any of the beauty. My friend and I found a vendor along the way selling beads for a dollar each. We purchased some, and continued our rapid journey to the river. It wasn’t long before the crowd became larger, and we were soon stuck behind a giggling, skipping couple. I hate skippers, but they really knew how to work their way around a crowd, so I put away my disdain and we followed their trail. Eventually we made our to the Riverwalk. This is like a minni river balcony that overlooks the Chicago River on Wacker Drive. You just descend the steps, and you are overlooking the River. You can overlook the river from the street also, but this gives a better view. We had secured a spot amongst the spectators. It was now about 10 o’clock. This is when we began our wait.

We waited a long time, in the bitter cold. It wasn’t until about 11 that we saw any action. First we saw some tour boats go by. The people on them would smile and wave. All we could think in reply was ‘WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO DYE THIS RIVER? IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AN HOUR AGO’. As our hands and feet slowly achieved frostbite status, we watched some bagpipe players ride up to use on a boat.

That was the best image my frozen hands could muster. Sorry. We all applauded because we were so excited that something interesting had finally happened. Next came the paddle boarders. And they brought t-shirts.

The funniest thing about this was when a spanish woman from the audience tried to put one of the t-shirts on over her giant jacket. There were also some woman’s rowing teams that paddled by. I would like to say that something really exciting happened next! But nothing happened. An hour and a half and nothing happened. But, I did meet this girl standing next to us, and as my friend and I left to go find food, she followed us to a bathroom.

Now the place we wen to eat was amazing. It may have been just because I was starving, but the burger I had was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. The restaurant was Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse. The waiters were all very friendly and Italian. Here’s a pic of my burger.

Now I don’t want to leave you all hanging. Just because I didn’t get to see the Chicago River dyed, doesn’t mean it probably isn’t worth waiting for. Just go to a different area than I was at. Anyway I did manage to acquire a picture of the river that my friend’s acquaintance snapped. So here it is for your viewing pleasure:
